Nature’s B-School
Leadership learning from pujas and festivals but how?
Different Pujas (festivals) appear as the most important enjoyment as well as a learning platform in various parts of life. It says Pujas are not only chanting mantras but help to develop all important skills. We do net realise but some people imbibe leadership learning from Pujas and Festivals in a very young age, some become leaders and some lead humdrum life.
The first step is the Saraswati Puja. It’s in every small lane in Bengal, all together in millions. The LEADERSHIP quality starts from here at the age of 5/6 years. We, a group of close friends (mostly larger family brothers and sisters) started it by collecting one rupee, fifty paise from masi-pisi (Uncle, Auntie). And mother’s saari, and father’s dhoti (a large cloth used as traditional wear) turned into a beautiful pandal. This is the CREATIVITY start point.
Then Durga Puja and Kali Puja (Diwali) became the main, a larger demonstration of capabilities like CONVINCING & NEGOTIATION power. ACCOUNTING AND BUDGETING. TEAM BUILDING to channelise the different mindsets of youth for one common GOAL.
It can be Ganesh Chaturthi, Pongal, Bihu etc. in various places in the kingdom of versatility, i.e., in India. It can be Christmas, Eid, Gurpurab etc. for different religious communities.
However, the most heart-touching was Vishwakarma Puja for me. As I was the Service Manager for long years, and before that as a team member organising it in the service centre for the entire organisation. The key ingredient of RELATION BUILDING with customers. Buyers no longer feel them as customers but become FAMILY members of the organisation. No seminar and conference etc. can achieve this level of family feeling.
Learning through own experience (so-called WORKSHOP) by absorbing jolts, making STRATEGY, doing own COURSE CORRECTION by high ENGAGEMENT of heart, not mind only, creates a solid foundation. CONFIDENCE develops and turns to VISION to THINK BIGGER.
Can you relate it with your B-School learning – Creativity, Convincing power, Negotiation skills, Accounting, Budgeting, Team building, Relation building, Engagement, Family feeling, Confidence, Strategy, Course correction, Leadership, Vision.
